Baldur’s Gate 3 is breaking boundaries for open-world RPG gaming. With all the fun things you can do in the game, you are sure to miss some key mechanics that may help you later in the game. For instance, crafting! Crafting is an age-old mechanic in video games and Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t skimp.
You can craft many things using Alchemy, including potions. There are multiple types of potions that will aid you in battle, but you won’t have immediate access to them. This guide will go into detail about how to craft in Baldur’s Gate 3 and how to unlock even more potions.
How To Craft Potions In Baldur’s Gate 3
To access the crafting menu, you must open your individual inventory. This is separate from the party member’s inventory, so be sure to open the correct one.
There are four tabs above your inventory. One allows you to view your inventory, the other your character stats, and alchemy, and the last is your Illithid worms. The Alchemy tab is what you want. Here, you will be able to view every category of items you can craft in the game.
The categories lower on the list are ingredients that will be needed to craft potions, bombs, and weapon coats. Ingredients can be crafted by the natural flora you find on your adventures.
Hold ALT on keyboard or R3 on controller to highlight items around you in the game. While walking outside of camp or a town, you will come across various plants you can loot such as Mugwort and Rogue’s Morsel. These are needed to craft salts, essences, and more that are further needed to craft the more important items.
Everyone automatically gets an Alchemy pouch in their inventory, where ingredients such as Mergrass will automatically fill up into the pouch. If you have ingredients ready to use in your inventory, all you have to do is go to your Alchemy menu and select any highlighted ingredient or potion.
All items in the Alchemy menu will be grayed out. When you have enough ingredients to make something, the title of the item will light up white. There is also a button at the bottom of the window that will say “Extract All Ingredients” so that you may mass-produce ingredients without having to click through each one.
How To Unlock More Potions
You have to find the recipes for potions in order to be able to craft them. The recipe for a basic healing potion will unlock when you extract your first Rogue’s Morsel plant in the Alchemy menu.
Most recipes will unlock by crafting and extracting ingredients, while others will unlock by reading note pages or books.
The only way to receive a recipe from a reading is by clicking through every page. This is why you should read, or rather click through, any paper you find from beginning to end.
